Have Labor Day plans? Here's your Florida weather forecast, including latest in the tropics (2024)

The long Labor Day weekend is coming up fast, in case you haven't checked your calendar yet and made some plans.

Although school is well underway here in Florida, Labor Day has long been considered the unofficial end of summer as we enter the fall months with thoughts of pumpkin spice dancing in our heads, Halloween decorations pop up in stores and shelves are cleared to make way for Christmas ornaments, lights and trees.

Unfortunately for Floridians, Labor Day falls during the busiest months of the Atlantic hurricane season and just days away from the historical peak of the season. The National Hurricane Center on Wednesday was monitoring two tropical disturbances in the Atlantic.

And there's the unfortunate truth that September in Florida is much more likely to bring heat advisories than cooler temperatures.

That said, it should come as no surprise the Labor Day forecast across Florida can be summed up in two words: hot and rain. Want specifics for where you live? Here are the Labor Day weekend forecasts and National Weather Service live radar across Florida to help you prepare.

Tropics watch, Aug. 29:Tropical depression could develop by early next week

As of Thursday morning, the National Hurricane Center was tracking a tropical disturbance that has a 40% chance of development. Forecasters said a tropical depression could form by early next week. The next named storm of the season will be Francine.

Sometime between Saturday and Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 2 is when it could become a tropical depression or storm as it approaches the Lesser Antilles, said AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva.

Don't expect any impacts to Florida or the U.S. over the Labor Day weekend.

At the earliest, Florida or the U.S. could feel impacts from the system the following weekend, around Sept. 7 or so. But that's a very, very early prediction and a lot can change before then, DaSilva said.

"It's still very far from potential U.S. impacts as it moves across the Atlantic," DaSilva said.

"It could turn out to sea. It may not even develop. It could enter the Caribbean or take a more northerly route toward the Bahamas or Turks and Caicos."
