Ingredients for Making This Beef Breakfast Sausage Recipe

Skillet Ground Beef Breakfast Sausage (or Blackstone Griddle) (2)
  • Ground Beef: I used 80/20 ground beef for this recipe. You can use leaner beef if you’d like, but I find that the fat content in 80/20 ground beef provides the best flavor and texture.
  • Spices: This recipe combines garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, dried sage, dried thyme, and crushed red pepper flakes to achieve the perfect flavor. I also add a teaspoon of sea salt to help bring out all the flavors. (Kosher salt works as well.) If you like, you could use black pepper in place or in addition to the crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Oil: I like to use avocado or olive oil when cooking this beef breakfast sausage. Any cooking oil will work, so use whatever you have on hand. You can also cook in a mixture of oil and butter.

Tips & Tricks for Making Homemade Beef Breakfast Sausage

  • The ground beef you use should be at least 80/20. I find that this gives the sausage the best flavor and texture.
  • Be sure to mix the spices in a small bowl before adding them to the ground beef. This will help ensure that they are evenly distributed throughout the meat.
  • When shaping the sausage mixture, use your hands to form them into tight discs. This will help prevent them from falling apart when cooking.
  • Cook the beef sausage over medium heat to medium-high heat so that the exterior can brown and crisp up without overcooking the interior.
  • Feel free to adjust the breakfast sausage seasoning to your liking. A teaspoon of minced onion, oregano, or marjoram are all great substitutions. You can add brown sugar for a sweeter homemade sausage and use pre-made seasoning blends.
  • For a pop of fresh flavor, use 1 ½ tablespoons of minced fresh sage in place of the dried.

Serving Suggestions

These beef breakfast sausage patties are delicious on their own, but they are also excellent served with eggs, pancakes, or waffles.

Try serving them with a side of Blackstone potatoes or sweet potato fries.

For some reason, all beef sausage recipes come out tasting like little hamburgers. Why is that.

All beef has a " Beefy" taste. Unless you overdue the spices so you cant taste the beef then your using to much spice. If you don't like the beef taste use ground chicken or turkey!
