Hokien Named Associate Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Kutztown University has named Dr. Deborah Hokien as associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Hokien brings more than 16 years of progressive administrative leadership in higher education to KU and will begin her new role Monday, Aug. 12. Hokien’s career includes more than 25 years as a chemistry professor at Marywood University. She served as department chair for six years and in 2021, began a two-year stint as the associate dean for the College of Health and Human Services. Hokien comes to KU from Palm Beach State College, Lake Worth Beach, Fla., where she served as the associate dean for the Division of Mathematics and Science since 2023.
Dr. Steve Lem has been serving as the interim associate dean since January 2023. During this time, he provided leadership for key initiatives related to course scheduling, the development of new major programs and updated web content for academic programs. Lem served as department chair in Philosophy and Government from 2014-23, a role now filled by Dr. Robert Portada. Lem will begin serving as chair of Academic Enrichment beginning Monday, Aug. 12. Trio from Women's Golf named WGCA All-American Scholars
Gabby Cohen, Brooke Grahamand Rhi Stutzof the Kutztown University women's golf team were recognized as Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars. It is the first WGCA scholar recognition for each Golden Bear. To be eligible, a student-athlete must hold a cumulative grade point average better than 3.50 and must have played in at least 50 percent of the institution's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team's conference championship.
